What does the test do?
The IVA-2 CPT is a test of visual and auditory attention and impulse control. It is designed primarily to help quantify symptoms suggestive of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorders (ADHD) for ages 6 to adult. Including the Warm-Up and Practice periods, the overall testing time is about fifteen minutes with the Main Test lasting about twelve minutes.
What will I need to do in the test?
The test presents a series of "1"s and "2"s in a pseudo-random combination of visual and auditory stimuli. The test taker is required to click a mouse only when he sees or hears a “1” (target) and not to click when he sees or hears a “2” (foil). The test is intended to be mildly boring and demanding of sustained attention.
How do I set up Computer for a remote test at home?
- Be sure your computer is set to the correct time and date.
- Close other programs while a test is being run. Running other programs simultaneously when testing, even if they are running in the background, can affect measured reaction time or interrupt the test.
- If your computer uses a screen saver, disable it during testing.
- For precise timing, a mouse is required—laptop trackpads should not be used for clicking, as they can produce inaccurate results. While wireless mice have been determined to be accurate in timing for Windows 10 or Mac OS PCs, the wired USB is recommended for other systems.
- Sound levels should be adjusted before testing begins so that the individual can clearly hear the words spoken and to make sure the volume level is not too loud.
- Test should be administered on Windows 7/8/10 or on Mac OS using the Chrome web browser.
How should the Testing Environment be?
- The testing computer should be situated in a quiet room that is free of auditory and visual distractions.
- Test taker should wear comfortable wired headphones/earbuds or the test auditory information be played using external speakers.
- Seat the test taker fifteen to twenty-four inches from the monitor screen with the center of the monitor one to two inches below eye level.
- Minimize glare on the monitor screen, and be sure to use screens that are not excessively glossy.
- Place the mouse on a mouse pad in front of the monitor.
- Place the keyboard off to one side
- A stable, non-swivel chair is recommended.

- Click only the leftmost button. Keep their hand over this button throughout the test. Do not click the right button in any circumstances and do not simultaneously click both right and left buttons.
